Lovran: Smugglers and Corsairs

The story begins in front of the town tower. There you will be greeted by the Author, a learned chronicler of local events, who will introduce you to the thrilling historical era of the Uskok War. This was the early 17th century, when Lovran was a well-known smuggling hub and supported the Croatian pirates — the Uskoks.

The Author leads you into the town tower to meet Lovran’s captain. Captain Herberstein, an official of the House of Austria, explains how the Venetians had blockaded the Senj Uskoks at sea, and presents a plan to supply the Uskoks with food and weapons via secret routes. However, this is no easy task, as Venetian spies roam Lovran, and anyone caught by these notorious spie engaging in suspicious activities risks having their business ruined.

The storytelling (adven)ture “Lovran: Smugglers and Corsairs” is a hybrid event blending elements of a guided tourist tour, a team-based treasure hunt, and role-playing.

Moving through the maze of stone alleyways, teams engage in lively interactions with Lovran’s merchants and test their skills in activities such as deciphering Glagolitic script, tying sailors’ knots, “cultivating” chestnuts, navigating the medieval town center, and more — all while evading the watchful eyes of Venetian spies and immersing themselves in authentic life stories from Lovran’s distant past.

The adventure is intended for all age groups, welcoming friends, colleagues, parents with children, young and old alike — in short, all lovers of Lovran, heritage, history, pirates, and good games.
