Terra Incognita is a small business based in the Opatija area, specializing in publishing and storytelling tours. The owner is Ana Cerovac, a licensed tourist guide and writer.
It is no coincidence that Branko Fučić, a well-known researcher of history and culture, once said that sometimes our own homeland can be an undiscovered land — terra incognita. The unique features of our region often fade into oblivion, and it takes an exciting story to brush the dust off them.
That is what we do. In the creative laboratory of Terra Incognita and the association Kulturni front, imaginative costumed tours are created to promote and revive local heritage. Based on Ana’s scripts, a playful team of performers steps into their roles, adds a touch of improvisation, and brings to life memorable characters whose stories will take you into the world of the unknown Kvarner.
Why “Kvarner After Dark”?
The first reason why our tour series carries the name Kvarner After Dark is that, after sunset in our region, the most thrilling — and sometimes the most chilling — stories would begin. With the night came witches (štrige), nightmare spirits (more), and werewolves (kudlaci), but also smugglers from Lovran. In the dark, the familiar world loses its shape and draws you into the shadowy corners of legend and history, where reality intertwines with imagination.
The second reason for this name is a bit more down-to-earth. Since everyone has their daytime jobs, we generally have the chance to reveal our “alter egos” mostly in the evening hours — or after dark.
Take a look at our calendar to see what events are coming up — if they aren’t performances, then they’re book presentations!
